The Boscastles
Scandals … Secrets … Seductions … Savoir faire …
It’s all business as usual in the family where love conquers all – one at a time.
At the end of 2002 Ballantine Books approached me about writing a Regency series. I had never written a series before, and I mulled over many ideas before I wrote a synopsis for the one that felt right - the one that begins with a high-society wedding that goes all wrong. The Seduction of an English Scoundrel is the story of Grayson Boscastle, the fifth Marquess of Sedgecroft, patriarch of an infamous family of rogues. Grayson has courted scandal all his life. He never expects to face his first moral dilemma at his cousin's wedding.
As soon as I wrote this scene, which includes most of the original London Boscastles, everything else started to fall into place. Characters, plots, and even titles for the next trilogy. The best part about writing a series is that with each book the characters build history. The worst part is that a writer can’t go back and change that history to fit her current story.
I finished The Seduction of an English Scoundrel early in 2003. The name Boscastle comes from a quaint Cornish village. It is pronounced Boss-castle. My first published historical romance was also set in Cornwall, as was my novella Ruined, and Abandon, my tenth book, takes place on a mythical island off this beautiful land.
The Boscastle family are a big-hearted, sexy and unconventional brood. I have tried to make each of their books stand alone. Rumors, of course, are still cropping up about their misadventures. But I have it on good authority that “Regency England’s most scandal-prone society clan” are honored to continue their love affair with their readers.
And so am I.
Thank you.
